The right tool depends on your vehicle model year and the work you need to do. SDD is required for most vehicles up to 2016, while Pathfinder covers newer models from 2017 onwards. SDD (Symptom Driven Diagnostics) is Jaguar Land Rover's legacy diagnostic platform covering vehicles from 2005 to approximately 2016. It supports the full Jaguar range including XF, XJ, F-TYPE, and F-PACE, plus Land Rover models such as Discovery 3 and 4, Freelander 2, Range Rover (L322), Range Rover Sport (L320), and Evoque (L538). Newer vehicles from 2017 onwards require Pathfinder instead.

The official JLR SDD software requires a licence and cannot be legally downloaded for free. Unofficial or pirated copies often contain malware, lack calibration files, and will not connect to the vehicle correctly. We supply genuine SDD licences with full calibration data, remote installation support, and ongoing updates.

JLR SDD requires a Windows 10 or 11 laptop with at least 8 GB RAM, an Intel i5 processor or equivalent, 50 GB of free disk space, and a USB 3.0 port for the VCI connection. A solid-state drive is strongly recommended for faster loading of large calibration files. SDD does not run on macOS, Linux, or tablets.

We provide a step-by-step installation guide and remote support for all SDD purchases. The process involves installing the JLR-approved drivers, the SDD application, and the calibration database. We can also pre-install everything on a Panasonic Toughbook so your system is ready to use out of the box.

For JLR SDD, you need a J2534 pass-through cable or a compatible VCI. The Mongoose JLR Cable is a popular, cost-effective choice for SDD. For workshops that also service newer vehicles, our DA-DoIP VCI supports both SDD and Pathfinder, making it a more versatile long-term investment.

Yes, SDD supports offline programming for many modules using calibration files stored locally on your laptop. However, some security-critical modules and newer ECUs require an online connection via TOPIX Cloud. We supply the full offline calibration database with our SDD licences and can advise when online programming is mandatory.

You need it if you plan to perform online programming, ECU updates, or calibration work on supported vehicles. We offer 12-month TOPIX Cloud subscriptions with full setup assistance.

Software updates depend on the product. SDD and Pathfinder updates are included during your licence period. TOPIX Cloud includes live updates as part of the subscription. IDS (Integrated Diagnostic System) was the predecessor to SDD and was used for Jaguar vehicles up to approximately 2009. SDD replaced IDS and covers both Jaguar and Land Rover models from 2005 to 2016. If you own a modern Jaguar or any Land Rover, you need SDD or Pathfinder rather than IDS.

TOPIX Cloud dealer accounts are available through authorised JLR partners. We offer 12-month TOPIX Cloud subscriptions that include account setup, full documentation, and remote activation assistance. This gives you dealer-level access to online programming, calibration files, and module updates.

A DoIP VCI (Diagnostic over IP Vehicle Communication Interface) is the hardware device that connects your laptop to the vehicle's CAN bus. It translates commands between your diagnostic software and the vehicle's modules. You need a compatible VCI for any diagnostic or programming work. We supply DA-DoIP and WiFi-enabled VCIs that work with both SDD and Pathfinder.

Yes, our DA-DoIP VCI and JLR DoIP VCI (WiFi) interfaces are compatible with both SDD and Pathfinder software. They support both legacy CAN and modern DoIP protocols, making them versatile for workshops that service a range of vehicle ages. One interface covers the majority of JLR diagnostic needs.

It depends on the VCI. Some third-party J2534 interfaces work with SDD, but Pathfinder requires a genuine or fully compatible DoIP VCI for stable operation. We recommend our tested interfaces to avoid connection issues and ensure full functionality. If you already own a VCI, contact us with the model and we will confirm compatibility.

Our remote coding service connects you to a JLR specialist via a secure remote desktop session (AnyDesk or TeamViewer). You plug the VCI into your vehicle, we take control of your laptop, and perform the coding or programming work while you watch. A KVM (Keyless Vehicle Module) virgin file is a clean, unprogrammed module file used when replacing a faulty KVM or adding new keys. When a KVM is replaced, it must be virginised before it can be paired to your vehicle's immobiliser system. We supply the correct virgin file for your specific part number and can program it remotely.
